Forty years ago a few visionaries saw the potential of in-home, desk-top computers. These soon hit the market, but consumers were skeptical and cautious.
Thirty years ago small computers began to catch on. The first portable computer (Osborne) appeared in April 1981. It looked like a portable sewing machine, had a 5 inch monitor and weighed 23.5 lbs.
Twenty years ago the Apple IIe is introduced. It contained 64KB of RAM, 1Mhz processor, running on Applesoft Basic and sells for $1400.
Ten years ago the most expensive Internet domain name, business.com, was sold for $7.5 million.
Five years ago Google announces Gmail, Windows XP is released, Firefox is first introduced, YouTube is founded and Yahoo acquires popular photo service Flickr.
Two years ago Apple introduces the world to the iPhone.
One year ago the “HD player war” comes to an end when HD DVD calls it quits, and Blu-ray is the victor.
